SIGNING CEREMONY OF A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) BETWEEN UTM AND THE MEDICAL DEVICE AUTHORITY (MDA)

Skudai, 30th May: – The signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UTM and the Medical Device Authority (MDA) has been held in Block V01, Faculty of Biosciences and Medical Engineering (FBME), UTM Johor Bahru.

The ceremony was officiated by the UTM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International), Y. BHG. PROFESSOR DR. ZAINUDDIN BIN ABD MANAN with the Chief Executive Officer, Medical Device Authority, Y.BHG. En. Zamane bin Abdul Rahman, witnessed by the MDA Board of Directors, MDA and UTM senior staff, FBME staff as well as researcher at the IJN – UTM Cardiovascular Engineering Center.

The main goal for the Memorandum of Understanding between UTM and MDA is to establish cooperation and collaboration in matters related to teaching and learning, research and development, consultancy, Competencies Certification, Staff and Student Placements in the area of Medical Engineering, Medical Devices, Health Informatics, Policy, Regulation and Standards, and Clinical Engineering.

With the signing of this MoU, there will be a lot more space to both parties to formulate and planning of academic and research cooperation in a more strategic and coordinated manner.

Through this MoU, it will be really helpful especially in terms of offering space to conduct joint research to address issues relating to Medical Engineering. In addition, there are a variety of resources in the MDA that can be utilised especially specialist and administrator / experienced managers that can provide meaningful input in these efforts.

In addition, this joint venture also shows the determination of all parties in supporting the government’s efforts in building Malaysia into a developed nation by the year 2020, through strategic and systematic planning in addressing issues related to Medical Engineering.

It is UTM hope that with the signing of this MoU, it will be the starting point towards a joint collaboration in the sharing of expertise, particularly for increasing the research activities in the country. It will also increase the level of knowledge and skill of the various parties involved, and both parties firmly believe that this effort will put this university to greater heights globally.
