TWO UTM STUDENTS EMERGED AS CHAMPION AND 2ND RUNNER UP IN IEEE INNOVATION NATION MALAYSIA 2021
Two UTM’s Year 3 students from the Faculty of Engineering – Crystal Tiong Hui Man (School of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences) and Ho Yi Ning (School of Chemical and Energy Engineering) had won in both Malaysia and Sarawak Track in IEEE Innovation Nation Malaysia 2021. The team was announced as the Champion for Sarawak Track and Second Runner-Up for Malaysia Track in IEEE Innovation Nation Malaysia 2021 on 20th December 2021 and successfully took home RM3000 and USD800 for respective awards.
This competition was organised by IEEE – Curtin University Student Branch. There were 15 teams competing in this competition in Malaysia. The IEEE Innovation Nation initiative was carried out in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Jamaica this year. Each country will go through the IEEE Innovation Nation life cycle which were team selection, workshops, mentoring and final pitch.
The competition in Malaysia started from October 2021 to December 2021. The Innovation Nation life cycle helped participating teams to further improve their ideas and at the same time, exposed them to new information and knowledge in the current entrepreneurship field.
The Covid-19 pandemic changes the lifestyle of the communities, people are more concerned about hygienic issues. In-line with this situation, the team came out with a portable washing device called PortaWash for university students who stay in university dorms to wash their clothes efficiently and hygienically with ultrasonic technology.
