Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) – Technical University Ilmenau (TUIL)’s International Double Degree for Master Programme and Doctorate (PhD) Programme in Biomedical Engineering.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Technical University Ilmenau (TUIL), Germany has started an International Double Degree programme in Bomedical Engineering. On 4th June 2010, Faculty of Health Science and Biomedical Engineering, UTM and Faculty of Computer Science and Automation, TUIL has signed the MOA for International Double Degree programme in Biomedical Engineering for master and doctorate degree. Besides, the MOA include also the staff exchange programme and undergraduate internship programme.
The doctorate programme has been started from the date of 4th June 2010 by first  UTM’s student,  Lai Khin Wei  for PhD program in TUIL with funding from Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship. He will be studied in Germany for the next 16 months. The doctorate double degree programme enable  student to be awarded with 2 certificates, which are Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomedical Engineering from UTM and Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing) in Biomedical from TUIL. The students is required to stay at least 9 months at the partner university.
The double degree master programme will be started on July 2011. The student will be awarded with 2 certificates, which are a M. Eng in Biomedical Engineering from UTM and/or a M.Sc in Biomedical Engineering from TUIL. The students must stay for at least 7 months at the partner university. Limited scholarships from German’s government are available for selected students. Some interested research areas are biomagnetism, ophthalmology, medical imaging, medical electronics, health care management, biomechanics, therapy and rehabilitation, clinical science, biosignal processing, nanomedicine, drug delivery and biosensors.
