Biomedical signals are observation of physiological activities of organisms, ranging from gene and protein sequence, to neural and cardiac rhythms, to tissue and organ images. Biomedical signals processing aims at extracting significant information from biomedical signals. Biological signal are space, time or space-time records of a biological event. For medical diagnosis user or student, this biosignal contains many information that can be used to understand the underlying physiological mechanisms of specific biological event or system. Biological signal can be classified to various characteristic such as waveform shape, temporal properties and statistical structure. There are two board classes of signals that commonly encountered include continuous and discrete signals. Sensors adapt the signal that being observed into an electrical analog signal that can be measured with data acquisition system which converts the analog signal into a calibrated digital signal that can be stored. Digital signal processing techniques are applied to the stored signal to reduce noise and extract additional information that can improve understanding of physiological meaning of original parameter.
