On the 30th October 2017, a half-day visit to the Imagineering Institute in Nusajaya, Johor, was held by Dr. Noor Azlinda Ahmad for the 1st year students from sections 4 and 8 of the course “Introduction to Electrical Engineering (SKEE1012)”. Upon arrival at the Imagineering Institute, the delegate was greeted by the institute’s representative, Ms. Nurul Aini, and was given short briefing on the institute by the institute’s CEO, Mr. Charles Thomas.
After the briefing, the students were divided into several small groups for a demonstration session. Various interesting demonstrations, led by the institute’s senior research fellow, Dr. Kasun Karunayaka, were shown to the delegate. These include olfactometer, Invisible Island and multisensory book for vision impaired children, electric and magnetic thermal taste, scentee, augmented reality (AR) for education, and multisensory classrooms.
The students were overwhelmed by the demonstrations and the students enjoyed the trip very much. It is hoped that the trip will expose the students to electrical and electronics engineering technology and inspire them to be an innovative and creative engineers in the near future, apart from fulfilling the Teaching-Research Nexus element of the course.
