A mixed small group of 4 FKE staff, 5 postgraduate students and 2 undergraduate students visited Integrated Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility (ISMF) site, ON Semiconductor Sdn Bhd recently. We were greeted by the Fab Operation Manager, Mr. Navin Kumar. It was an overwhelming experience when some UTM Alumni who has been working there in a various posts from 2 to 9 years came to receive us as well. Part of the agenda during the visit is a presentation from FKE on the various postgraduate programs and a brief introduction about research facilities in FKE and UTM generally. Finally, we were brought for a line tour of the fabrication site. Each of us were given a cleanroom garment before entering the cleanroom area. We were shown the step-by-step process from the moment the blank wafers were received until the device fabricated being shipped out. One interesting process was back-grind back metal which is the thinning of the wafer down to 50 µm. On Semiconductor expressed their honour by our visit and look forward to have collaboration work with the faculty members. The faculty expressed sincere appreciation on their time and effort to receive us.
