ENGLISH REQUIREMENT
International applicants must fulfill one of the options below:

Note:
- Students must have a valid two-year TOEFL certificate with PBT score of 600 or above (IBT/CBT equivalent) or IELTS Band 7 or CIEP equivalent as a pre-requisite for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program.
- Applicants who do not meet the English proficiency requirements of their chosen program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) can improve their English at ELS Language Centers in Malaysia. UTM accepts ELS English Certificate (level 107) as an ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. Students who choose to attend ELS must pass the required English Course(s) at ELS before starting their programs in UTM. (Refer also to a list of countries given exemptions)

Special Exemption
Candidates from Indonesia, Brunei and other nations that use Malay as the medium of communication are exempted from the UTM English language requirements based on the following conditions:
- The candidate intends to register for an M.Phil or a Ph.D. program by research.
- The candidate declares that the thesis will be written in Malay and approved by the supervisor
Candidates for Faculty of Islamic Civilization program can use Bahasa Arab/Arabic as to write their thesis based on the following conditions:
- The candidate intends to register for a M.Phil. or Ph.D. program by research
- The candidate declares that the thesis/dissertation will be written in Arabic and approved by the supervisor
