On September 14th 2017, Electronic & Computer Engineering department (ECED) has organised a workshop called 2nd series of Electronic Workshop for School Students 2017 (BES2017), at Computer System Laboratory, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This 2nd series 2017 edition continues the productive collaboration between ECED with Seagate Inetrnational (Johor) Sdn. Bhd. as in previous organized three series since 2016. For this edition, the aims remains as follows:
- To elicit school student’s interest in the field of electrical engineering in general and electronics in particular
- To assist schools interested in setting up electronic club
The workshop was participated by 8 high schools from Johor Bahru; SMK Skudai, SMK Desa Skudai, SMK Sultan Alauddin, SMK Taman Universiti 1, MRSM Tun Dr Ismail, SMK Bandar Tenggara, SM Teknik Johor Bahru and Sekolah Tun Fatimah.
During the workshop, students were introduced to basic Arduino application in the form of practical sessions. The exciting part of this edition was that all participants were learned how to assemble an obstacle-avoiding RoboCar which involves the controlling of DC Motor, Servomotor, Ultrasonic Distance Sensor and Buzzer. During workshop, all lectures and activities were guided by instructors and facilitators from ECED (17 in total) and Seagate International (11 volunteers).
On that note, as the organizing committee, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Seagate for financial support as well as spending their time and effort joined the workshop and making the BES2017 a tremendous event. We do hope BES2017 2nd series enable to provide a valuable experience for participants and elevate their knowledge gained to beneficial use.
