Faculty of Electrical Engineering Students Wins Big in the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge

Students from Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia took home the first runner-up spot at the 2023 Open Category of the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC), organized by the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) on 7th October 2023. The team, MIKA, awarded a cash prize of RM 8,000, was represented by Gary Yee Hon Cheung (Bachelor of Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering), Goh Bee Lee (Bachelor of Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering), Lim Chia Ni (Bachelor of Electrical Engineering), Chai Chee Yin (Bachelor of Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering) and Edwin Ooi Yong Qing (Bachelor of Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering). MIKA was under the guidance of their mentor, Mr. Tan Eng Tong, CEO of Penang Skill Development Officer (PSDC).

MIKA was founded by a group of passionate and ambitious students who shared a common love for gaming, specializing in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of high-quality gaming tables. The vision of MIKA is to create customized, high quality gaming tables that focuses fully on gamer’s requirement. The mission is to provide gamers with fully customizable gaming tables that exceed their unique requirements, setting the industry standard for quality and personalization.

PYDC is a Penang state government agency that seeks to realize the collective vision of evolving the state of Penang into a developed and progressive society through youth enrichment. The goal of this competition organized annually is to give young entrepreneurs a platform to present and develop their business ideas. The achievement of MIKA team in the YEC 2023 showcases the potential of engineering students to be involved in the business world.
